LOCATIONS

In compliance with the ninth transitory article of the Hydrocarbons Law, Petróleos Mexicanos transferred the historical information of physical samples to the CNH through the CNIH, which is why the CNH is currently in charge of its management. For two years the CNIH through the National Core Center will provide services related to Historical Physical Samples in the following venues:

SERVICES

  • Geological sample exhibition and consultation

A service whereby the user selects the type of sample and interval of interest, which can be consulted inside the facilities of the Mineral Collection. The basic service may be provided, as well as the specialized service, including microscope use and basic Kit for geological sample description (tray, dissecting needles, pliers, 10% hydrochloric acid).

  • Sample cut of plug and core cushions

Plugs are obtained in the core by means of a drill press using a lubricant that does not alter the rock physically or chemically. Subsequently, by means of a diamond blade saw, the ends (cushions) are cut until obtaining a perfect cylinder (> 0.2°of deviation). Plugs can be obtained either horizontally or vertically.

  • Thin laminae production

Thin laminae are produced by cutting a cushion from the fragment of interest. The sample is then cut to 300 microns, more or less, and it is finally polished with a device until reaching a thickness of 30 microns. The sizes of thin laminae are normally 1x3 inches and 2x3 inches.

  • Capture of high resolution digital images of the core

Images (one with white light and another one with UV light) of the entire area of one meter long of the sectioned side of the core allowing for multimodal and multidimensional visualization of pores and fractures without resolution loss. It allows for measurement taking, data export to Excel, image rotation, as well as to mark and locate points of interest.

  • Capture of high resolution digital images of thin laminae

Images (one with transmitted light and one with polarized light) of the entirety of the thin laminae with a maximum size of 2x3 inches. A method for simultaneous acquisition of multidimensional petrographic images covering the entire volume of the thin laminae is used. It allows for measurement taking, data export to Excel, image rotation, as well as to mark and locate points of interest.
